Before I start on this new post, I would be remiss to not tell the world how thrilled I am to see our Canadian teenager, Brooke Henderson, now in the hunt for the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open as an LPGA Player!

Brooke is from Smith Falls, Ontario and is just 17-years old. She got her LPGA card this week after putting on a great performance last weekend in Portland, Oregon to win the Cambia Portland Classic. She is, as Judy Rankin from The Golf Channel described, “talented, sweet, smart, well spoken and TOUGH.” Judy Rankin knows what it’s like to be a talented 17-year old: she was just 17 years old when she won the Portland Classic herself, back in 1962!

Our Next Golf Trip

Another road trip and golf outing is in the cards. We (Ruth and I) are packing our clubs for a little trip to the U.S. of A!

Stay and Play at Par

After we played golf together earlier this week at The Canal at Delacour, Ruth invited me over for supper. While I was there, she pulled out a flyer that had come with the newspaper that day for a stay-and-golf package in Whitefish, Montana. With a headline of “Canadian At Par & Free Golf” we just had to look at it – and before we’d finished eating, we’d decided that Whitefish, Montana, will be our next road trip destination.

Believe me, with the Canadian dollar trading as low as it is against the USD, we wouldn’t normally have considered a trip to the USA. But with their offer of Canadian at par, those prices are nearly too good to be true. And with Whitefish being only 5 hours away from Calgary, the trip isn’t going to be too long — so here we go again!

Eureka! Well, Maybe Not Eureka…

So…our Montana Adventure will begin on Sunday. We’ll sleep at the Grouse Mountain Lodge and have two golf courses to play while we’re there. Meadow Lake Golf Course a 4 and a half out of 5 stars with Golf Digest and we will play it twice — who can argue with Golf Digest’s ratings? We will play Whitefish Lake course as our other choice while we’re there, a course that ranks 10th on Golf Digest’s listing of best golf courses to play in Montana – and there are only 3 courses on that list that are open to the public. The promotion gives us a choice of five different courses in the area: Northern Pines, Whitefish Lake, Meadow Lake, Buffalo Hill, and Eagle Bend. I love all those names! And The Wilderness Club, which is a Nick Faldo design is just next door in Eureka – and if we don’t have time to golf it, at least we will make a point to go there for lunch.

And then we’ll do a little Canadian road trip as we make our way back to Calgary. One of my favourite courses ever, ever, ever is Shadow Mountain in Cranbrook, B.C. and we’re already booked to play this course next Friday morning!

You can’t believe how itchy I am for this road trip. I’ve already decided what I’m taking, and I’m excited to be able to pack up the clubs again, and so is Ruth.
