Demo Days, Golf Professionals and Not Selling Yourself Short

Demo Day

Demo Day at Valley Golf Center

This morning, Ruth and I decided to take a drive and maybe hit some balls at El Mirage.  When we arrived at the Valley Golf Centerthe parking lot was full and I immediately realized on seeing large umbrellas that a DEMO Day was in full swing.

How lucky could we be?

What is a demo day, you say?

Well let me tell you. Most but not necessarily all the golf club equipment manufacturers will set up their brand behind the slots at the driving range.  There will be mens and ladies equipment on display from drivers to putters, balls, shafts and gloves for the public to try.  The company representatives that are showing their wares are now mostly professional teachers so while you are testing their clubs it is almost like getting a FREE lesson! You now will see a stand with the heads of drivers and fairway woods AND a multitude of shafts that can be attached right there and changed as your swing is analyzed by the way they see you hit a ball.

We tried Callaway, Cobra, Ping, Titleist and TaylorMade irons to start with and found the Cobra and TaylorMade the best for our swings. After trying the drivers and the fairway woods there was no doubt that the TaylorMade M2 was up and away the top dog for me.

I know that many of you women have had a set of clubs given to you by your husband or significant other.  Most of the time the giver has had the opportunity to have played golf and consider themselves a knowledgable person to pick out clubs for you.  However thoughtful this may have been there are professionals – golf professionals – that are much more qualified to fit you properly.  Your clubs and even your golf balls should fit YOU and these teachers are capable of helping you making the right decision when you purchase equipment.  And yes you can buy discounted clubs and second hand clubs – but if you want to be the best you can be you should get advice from someone who is actually trained in fitting clubs.  Would you buy a 10-year old used computer?  No way.  You want the same new technology in golf clubs as well as any electronic equipment.

Don’t sell yourself short.  You too can break 100, then 90 and even 80.

I am proof positive that every step of improvement in my game was because of buying new technology as I improved to breaking 80!

Plans for Dinner

Strawberry pie

Pie, pie, pie

We were talking about our plans for dinner when the phone rang and it was Lynn.  He explained that the couple they had invited for dinner were unable to come.  He asked if we could take their place as the steak had been marinating for 20 hours and the pie was out of the oven. That was a request that we certainly couldn’t turn down.

At 5:30 pm we were off to Sharon and Lynn’s for a wonderful evening.  We sat on the patio and watched the golfers on the golf course and tried to recognize all the different birds that were in and out of the trees.

Dinner was so yummy – the beef was melt-in-your-mouth, asparagus rolled in bacon with a sauce and French scalloped potatoes, red and white wine and you know what was next – the Strawberry Pie.

How lucky we are to have friends here in the valley of the sun!
