I knew it was going to be a great day as the sun was shining and it was warm for September. There[ was not a cloud in the sky when we left the condo at 8:30 a.m. Paddy, my friend from our residence, and I were not going to our usual place to play Bridge. We were heading to a brand new 15 story high rise seniors rental property called Wellings of Calgary. (I knew this would entail a “show and sales presentation after we played some Bridge”. More about that later.)
We were treated to a delicious breakfast and there was no entry fee for the Bridge as well!
We arrived early and the Bridge wasn’t starting till 10 o’clock so I had time to wander around the expansive ground floor. There is beautiful art everywhere!
After eating I was surprised to be surrounded by three of my former Bridge players with hugs. I had not seen them since COVID 19 and there was so much to catch up on.
My playing partner, Donna, and I sat down at the first table (there were seven ) with some serious Bridge players. We held our own and continued to progress from table to table as you have to win to move! And move we did. We had good cards and also played good defense. Out of 14 couples we came in 3rd, not far from 1st place. A gift card from Shopper’s and 10 Halloween small chocolate bars were the prizes we won.
Now it was time to check out the condo’s: one studio size, a one bedroom and a two bedroom all on the 13 floor. There was some interesting units, which were not the usual rectangle. I was quite surprised by these layouts as it made the units feel more like a home than an apartment. The units we looked at had the view of the forest and the other view was above the housing and the #Highway West.
This is a another view from one of the Wellings condo’s.
It was a fun morning of Bridge and I will enjoy more of these Bridge competitions in the future.
