90 years and counting

How do I summarize 90 years? Well I think I will start now and go back.

First of all I would like to thank Bob and Anne Fleming for putting on a fabulous birthday party on Saturday night, October 5th. I was pretty sure that Bridget, Erik and I were not the only people that would be invited to Bob and Anne’s that evening. Lisa and Kayleigh surprised me earlier at noon when they arrived at the Lady Bug cafe. Bridget and I were waiting for a table for four. We had a great visit and my quiche was super good.

At 5:30 p.m. we three arrived at Fleming’s to a room full of people.  20 of us had a wonderful turkey dinner and O’Shea chocolate cake with chocolate fudge icing  (made by Bridget that morning) for dessert. Many people contributed to the appetizers and dinner.  I thank them so much.   Then it was time to reminisce and a great toast to me by Bob.

Sunday morning “Johnny Cash…coming down” on the CD player. Not today it was Heather who come for a visit for two hours. So nice.

Family and friends

The whole weekend was I filled with birthday greetings from family and friends. I am so blessed.

Going back through the years I have moved a few times from staying in a rooming house with eight other girls to a home on McNiven in Regina to five different condo’s in Calgary to where I am now.  And I have good memories from all places.

I have never been one to care about material things although I do like to have a nice place to live. I also like a fast car to drive.  (I guess I inherited that from Doc.  Haha.)

Pretty well all my life I have eaten three meals a day.   The last 40 years I have spent a lot of time golfing.  Maybe not getting a lot of exercise but fresh air anyway.  My last  count is that I have played 222 golf courses.  Most have been in Alberta and Saskatchewan, with the rest scattered around North America and a couple of games in Hawaii,

I have to thank my of kids for pushing m to be the independent woman that I am. To take on different hobbies and challenges that keep my mind and body active. Many people also encourage me to take on activities that inspire others. One lady said she thought she would retire from golf at 65 until she saw me golfing in the Alberta Ladies Senior Championship at 87!

I have never had any trouble sleeping and back in 2003 I started having a nap after I finished 18 holes of golf!  That works for me.

So exercise regularly. Drink Hart & Son rum with Coke. And most of all be POSITIVE. Treat each day as if it is the best day ever and you too may live to be 90!
