Concerts I’ve Seen and Places I’ve Been

Some of my ticket stubs

The major highlight of all the concerts I have been to see was The Eagles “Live Concert”.  You may know they were and still are my favourite band.  And I love, ❤️, love Frank Sinatra I listen to CD’s and also online these artists songs regularly.

I will start with the concerts I went to in Regina.

  •  Lolly Mattern, Faye Christiansen and I went to see Johnny Cash and the Everly Brothers at the Exhibition Auditorium, Regina, in 1960. It was really, really loud as the stage was surrounded by cement walls for the seating. Johnny Cash fell off the stage!
  • Gordon Lightfoot, Conexus Arts Center, Regina.
  • Carleton Show BandConexus Arts Center, Regina. Sean McManus, the Lead Singer of the band was a cousin of Doc’s on the Maloney side.  We always were invited to the Green Room for drinks and a visit after the show.  So much fun.
  • Sinatra in the Round, Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver.   What a wonderful night to share with Colleen and Grandma Anne Fleming. In the round meant every seat could see Frank performing.  He certainly didn’t disappoint even for one minute of my time. Nobody could sing a love song like Frank.
  • MLB Montreal Expos vs Seattle Mariners, Vancouver. My one and only MLB game.  I will see my team, the L.A.Dodgers play sometime. That’s on my bucket list.
  • CFL Grey Cup — Saskatchewan Roughriders 43 – Hamilton Tiger Cats 40, November 26, 1989, Rogers Centre Simply the BEST  Grey Cip game ever.
  • The White House, Washington D.C. Way back when I was 17 I went to Washington D.C. with my sister Georgie and family. Along with all the other sites in D.C. our tour of the White House. Something you cannot do these days  –  we had a COMPLETE tour. Harry S. Truman was the President. I remember his desk.
  • The Nutcracker” by Alberta Ballet, Conexus Arts Center,
  • Sammy Kershaw,  Conexus Arts Center, Regina
  • “Crazy For You” – Conexus Arts Center, Regina.  I love anything and everything Gershwin.
  • Allan Jackson, Patty Loveless, SaskTel Center, Saskatoon
  • Cats” –  Conexus Arts Center, Regina.
  • Garth Brooks, SaskTel Center, Saskatoon. What a performance! Garth swinging out over the crowd on  a rope tied to the rafters.
  • The Mavericks, Conexus Arts Center, Regina
  • Tommy” –  Conexus Akrts Center, Regina. Good entertainment.
  • Anne Murray,  Conexus Arts Center, Regina I love to sing along with her CD’s, especially on road trips.
  • Calgary Flames vs Colorado AvalancheScotia Bank Saddledome,  Calgary. My first NHL game and a chance to watch Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg play.
  • Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers, Scotia Bank Saddledome,  Calgary
  • THE EAGLES, Scotia Bank Saddledome, Calgary.  What a fantastic night of the best of the best guitar playing, especially “Hotel California”. I loved every minute. I can still remember how I couldn’t get to sleep, the music was rocking in my head hours after the show.
  • Mamma Mia” –  Mandalay Bay Theatre, Las Vegas. Really great production. I had forgotten the words of ABBA but my memory kicked in with the first few notes of each song.
  • Cirque Du Soleil, Bellagio, Las Vegas. Awesome. I had never seenk anything like this before.  The precision of the acrobats was unbelievable, utterly out of this world! Absolutely excellent performances from the opening act
  • Elton John, Rexall Place, Edmonton. this was  “The Captain and the Kid” tour. Elton with his band in concert.  I would have preferred just “Elton and the Red Piano” at Caesar’s, Las Vegas but that never happened. However, this was an enjoyable night with Dorothy,  Heather and Annette.
  • Rod Stewart, Scotia Bank Saddledome, Calgary.  I enjoyed the first half of the show featuring songs from “American Songbook”.  I could have passed on the last half of the show of hard rock.
  • Andy Williams Christmas Show, Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage. Andy told a lot of stories, mostly about seniors, (just look at the grey haired crowd) so he wouldn’t strain his voice.  The stories were all funny. His singing was still quite good and all in all songs we love.
  • Dance With Me (Sinatra Songs),  Encore, Las Vegas. We could have danced all night the whole show was Sinatra Songs to dance to! The aisles were filled with seniors up on their feet!  Including our group.
  • Engelbert Humperdinck, Orleans Casino Showroom, Las Vegas.  Engelbert just never stops giving concerts.  He is just like the Energizer Bunny – he just goes on and on.  AND after the concert is over he goes backstage, takes off his tuxedo and comes out in his white robe to sign autographs to the ladies.
  • Shania Twain. –  Colosseum, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. It was great to hear Shania live.
  • Wicked” –  Gershwin Theatre, New York. This was a fun evening with my daughters and two grandkids.
  • Empire State Building, New York. Everybody should see New York City from the Empire State Building on a clear day.  We did.
  • Statue Of Liberty, New York. To see the statue up close was awesome.
  • Carousel” –  Stratford Festival, Stratford.
  • We left Sauble Beach and got lost a couple of times, (luckily I can always find where the sun should be) and arrived at Tim Hortons, Stratford, in time for lunch. We finally found parking and a bench by the water. The local artists were selling their paintings. See  Goodby to Sauble Beach
  • Torrey Pines, San Diego, California, Wolf Creek, Mesquite, Nevada, Sky Mountain, Hurricane, Utah,  Shadow Mountain, Cranbrook, BC and Silvertip, Canmore, AB my top five favorite golf courses.
  • For several years I went to concerts at Big Valley Jamboree at Craven, Saskatchewan. Some of the entertainers I saw included Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, The Judds and many others.  However the most memorable to me was the closing performance, in the moonlight, after midnight by k d lang.  I will never forget her fantastic voice silencing the rowdy crowd with her soulful rendition of “I Wish I Didn’t Love You So”.  Absolutely without a doubt I have a profound memory of her rendition of the song that night.
